Understanding God & Christianity (Core Biblical instructions)
What is understanding or knowledge?
There are levels or an array of variances in understanding and knowledge. It's like a spectrum or continuum. We can progress further with spiritual understanding, one day at a time, if we choose to seek and pursue it as the instructions in the Bible say to do.
It's easy to become overwhelmed when we look at the work ahead and part of our spiritual journey is to refocus on what we can do today knowing that each small step is powerful and necessary. All we have to do is take one small step each day to participate in God's will. Each small step ought to be on the path of steady improvement and growth. It won't take long to see that we can grow with and are growing with God.
The Bible describes God’s Character- are we choosing God? We ought to fully understand as best we can, one day at a time, God's will and grace. This understanding out to be growing through our seeking and pursuance of God's character. As we participate and give ourselves over more and more to that good character we may witness an intangible working force bringing discord toward peace. We may witness love growing about us. This spiritual existence can be observed only if our senses are seeking to be trained by it. Humbling ourselves to give ourselves over to God's character traits as vessels for them is key.
Next, lets look at how the Bible describes Christians in how they ought to behave and ask ourselves how we can improve in that behavior. Let's think about what will be required of us to grow in it and produce it with love in our hearts. Perhaps we may need some purification and cleansing from fear, anger, pride, or selfish ambition? Confession and repentance may be needed before love can be embraced.
The Bible describes Christian attitudes - are we being Christian?
Deuteronomy 30:11-20 , Ezekiel 18, & John 15 (see how these agree with each other)
Prayer - hearts & minds with God, temptation, (Prayer instructions)
Development - strategic use of our minds, hearts, strength, & soul
Both the New Testament & the Old Testament commands us to loving God with all of our heart, mind, soul, & strength. How well are we doing it? Could we do better? What is our plan? (Not having a plan is planning to fail)
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment.
We ought to do what the bible says, not just pieces of it that meets our convenient interest, but the central message of it that is repeated throughout it: - follow, obey, serve, seek, knock, listen, trust, believe, yoked, etc.
Faith in Hebrews - How much of ourselves do we give to serve God? Is our faith growing into the faith of Abraham?
Due to our own deceptive minds we ought to evaluate ourselves thoroughly and continuously to see how we are improving more and more into God's grace.
